Students will discuss art in their history, science, and art textbooks. Write a short poem combined with an illustration to create a piece of art work. Plan a stamp design of a famous person, historic event, or community issue. Use symmetry and pattern. Students will discuss ways we can understand the heritage of our state through art history. Students will discuss a story that includes art in pioneer times. Students will view paintings of pioneers and draw themselves as historical figure.

(See 3.6) Students will create artwork that includes their family group. Students will collect pictures of family and make a family collage. Students will talk about the colors used on shields of the knights. Make a personal shield. Research an artist that has a style and theme you like. Explain why you chose them by using art theories. Evaluate and write a response to the symbols from another era, e.g. cave painting.
