Poyen Elementary will be celebrating Grandparents Day on Thursday, September 21st. Grandparents are invited to join their grandchild for snacks in the elementary PD room at 12:30. In celebration of International Literacy Day, Poyen Elementary will have Book Character Day Friday, September 8th. Your child may dress up as his/her favorite story book character. We ask that they bring or borrow the book to accompany their costume that day. Please send a change of clothes if necessary for the rest of the day.

If you are interested in Subbing for Poyen School District in the areas of teaching or cafeteria, there will be a subteach training August 7th from 9am until 12pm in the Elementary PD room.

Congratulations to the Poyen Robotics Team - at Saturday's BEST robotics competition in Little Rock, the team placed 5th overall winning an advancing position to the Midwest robotics competition to be held in Fort Smith, Arkansas in December. The team also won the blood, sweat, and duct tape award for their constant efforts to keep their robot competing all day.

Poyen School District is looking into obtaining a waiver from the Arkansas State Department of Education to allow personalized learning opportunities for juniors and seniors on track to graduate. If approved for the waivers, these students would come to school only for the required core courses, then be involved in job-shadowing, internships, apprenticeships, college coursework, or employment in place of additional elective courses offered at Poyen High School. We are having a problem with parents using the drive behind the high school to drop off elementary students in the morning and picking them up in the afternoon. We have children who live close by and use that pathway to walk to school. It is getting too busy with traffic to be safe. Please, no thru traffic behind the High School.
